Our Taihaku & Hanami

Hanami (花見, flower viewing) is the Japanese traditional custom of enjoying the beauty of flowers from cherry blossom trees. In modern-day Japan, Hanami mostly consists of having an outdoor party beneath the sakura during daytime or at night and that’s exactly what we’re creating our own ‘unique’ version of as part of our corporate fundraising event.

The Cherry Blossom Orchard at The Alnwick Garden has the largest collection of ‘Taihaku’ in the world. Comprising of 329 trees, they all bloom together for up to two weeks and we’re keeping everything crossed this is going to fall at the exact time of our Hanami event! Guests will be treated to an evening of philanthropy and the celebration of this unique annual phenomenon

FAQ’s

  • Where do I park?

Attendees of Hanami at The Alnwick Garden can park free of charge in the ACCESSIBLE car park, through the main garden entrance. Please show your Hanami event ticket to our staff in the car park to obtain free parking.

*Please note, attendees are not to park in the main car park on the opposite side of the road to The Garden as this gets locked at night.

  • Where within The Garden is the event held and where do I go for the drinks reception?

From the accessible car park, follow the signage for The Garden, past admissions on your right and through the gated entrance on the left, the event will begin in the main atrium space.

  • Are there refreshments and food provided?

Yes, tickets include a welcome drink and a 3 course sit down meal. Additional drinks can be purchased from the bar throughout the evening. Pre-orders on food are required and we also need to be made aware of any dietary requirements in advance.

  • Can I book a mobility scooter or wheelchair?

The Alnwick Garden has a limited number of mobility scooters and wheelchairs available to visitors free of charge. It’s advisable to book in advance by calling 01665 511350 and choosing option 1. Scooters are booked for 3hrs and can be collected from either admissions or the priority car park.

  • What is the dress code?

The dress code is ‘formal’ but don’t feel the need to wear black tie, unless you wish to of course! The general vibe is cocktail dresses and suits and part of the evening will be spent in our Cherry Blossom Orchard.

Because of the outdoor/indoor nature of the event, we will be running a cloaks room for the duration of the evening. Feel free to bring a warm coat and sensible shoes, as well as your heels or fancy shoes and they can be swapped over for the formal sit down dinner.

  • Do you accept card and cash?

As this is a corporate fundraising event there will be plenty of opportunity throughout the evening to get involved with raffles, games and auctions to raise money for The Alnwick Garden Trust. We accept all major debit and credit cards as well as cash payments and thank you in advance for your generosity!
