We’re delighted to have brought to life an astronomical collaboration between The Alnwick Garden, Kielder Observatory and Deep North to deliver the first in a series of exclusive evening events ‘Stargazing at The Alnwick Garden’.
Teaming up with our friends from Kielder Observatory, we brought a night of delights, designed to spark interest in astronomy and the dark skies. Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Northumberland International Dark Sky Park, our guests were taken on an astronomical journey by Kielder Observatory’s expert astronomers and science communicators. With talks and workshops, as well as a special planetarium show it really was an evening showcasing the power of collaboration at its finest.
With 60 exclusive event tickets, Stargazing at The Alnwick Garden sold out in a matter of days. The event gave guests the opportunity to learn about stars and constellations, galaxies and meteorites. Interactive and informal workshops allowed everyone to participate and get hands on with space rocks as well as learning about the importance of light. There was also plenty of time to ask all those burning questions. What is a star? How far away is Jupiter? Do aliens exist? The weather wasn’t quite on our side but a few breaks in the clouds saw the guests observing the wonders of the dark skies.
From stargazing to starglazing, we also collaborated with the wonderful team at Deep North to create an exclusive ‘starglazing’ doughnut.
Working from their newly opened Dean Street shop, our vision for a deliciously ‘star-studded’ limited edition doughnut become a reality!
Throughout the month of February, our starglazing doughnut is available to purchase at both Tynemouth and Dean Street Deep North shops, as well as online through Uber Eats. As if the mouthwatering blueberry flavour and stunning mirror glaze isn’t enough, the amazing team at Deep North are donating £1 from the purchase of every doughnut to our charitable trust.
We’re getting back round the table, over the coming weeks, to work in partnership to deliver more events and limited edition products in the near future. It’s fabulous long term relationships like these which make us proud to be part of delivering a unique visitor experience with our friends and neighbours to put Northumberland and the North East on the map!
The Grow Business Club at The Alnwick Garden has been formed to break the stereotypical ‘business networking’ mould. We’re brand new and from March 2024 we’ll meet face to face once a month but drive the power of collaboration on a daily basis. Together we share learning, harness insight, join forces and have a whole lot of fun along the way. There are no set expectations, no required commitments and we love for businesses of all shapes and sizes to join us.
Headed up by our Senior Partnerships Manager, Lauren St Hilaire, we’re opening up the Grow Business Club to businesses large and small. Having identified a gap in Northumberland when it comes to unique networking and business events, our club is the true definition of collaboration at its best. We’re not here for simply delivering great tea and coffee (although they’re of course on the agenda). We’ve created Grow to help achieve palatable objectives, overcome collective challenges and help each other thrive in Northumberland and the wider North East.
With a unique circuit style set up, our club offers an opportunity to meet and chat to everyone in the room to discuss important themes such as sustainability, innovation, community, education, employment and everything in between.
The first Grow Business Club will take place on Thursday 21st March. A chance to share knowledge around all things sustainability. We’ll be joined by our friends at Kelloggs and our Climate Action Program Manager who will share stories about how they’re over coming challenges and crafting innovative solutions to head towards Net Zero. Businesses will also have the opportunity to be our founding ‘Grow’ members as we begin our very first living wall!
We’re looking forward to opening our doors, sharing knowledge and helping harness the power of collaboration, partnerships and building solid relationships within Northumberland and beyond. Click here to book your place at our first event and let’s grow business together!
The Alnwick Garden have partnered with The Stephen Carey Fund on the quest to source an additional defibrillator for our Lilidorei site. We’re extremely grateful to all of the amazing volunteers who help with providing defibrillators and emergency life saving skills training throughout Northumberland.
The Stephen Carey Fund story is hugely inspirational and they work with local communities and organisations within Northumberland towards the placement of defibrillators throughout the county, to provide emergency life saving training. It’s through wonderful partnerships like these that we’re continuously developing, growing and learning as a team. We’ve improved knowledge of and increased awareness of cardiac arrest throughout The Alnwick Garden team with the addition of an additional defibrillator at Lilidorei.
We hope and pray they we’ll never have a need to use our new defibrillator but we’re prepared and trained by the wonderful Stephen Carey Fund, should we ever need to help anyone. Defibrillators really do save lives and we’d urge any organisation who needs a new or updated defibrillator to get in touch with them via email committee@thestephencareyfund.co.uk.
